three- and four-bedroom cottages have complete kitchens and large
lanais with coconut grove or oceana views. Or live like the plantation
owners at the Manager's Estate, a two-story, five bedroom house
offering a comfortable oceanfront lanai, two dining areas and a
large living room.
The property
is beachfront with black sand. Resort amenities include pool, tennis
court, and volleyball. Discover Kauai by hiking along picture-postcard
trails of Na Pali Coast. Visit Waimea Canyon, "the Grand Canyon
of the Pacific". There's also horseback riding, Zodiac raft
trips to remote sea caves, boat rides to Fern Grotto, and leisurely
shopping and dining.
On the oceanfront is a good-size pool surrounded by a large sunning
deck that includes a hot tub. Nearby are two beach volleyball courts
and two shuffleboard courts. A day spa occupies one of the cottages.
These emblems of 21st-century pleasure unobtrusively blend with
history. A little museum about the Waimea Sugar Mill Company, whose
worker cottages guests occupy, is worth a visit.
