| Hapuna
Golf Course |
The
Hapuna Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course
nestled in the dramatic natural contours of the land from
the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. The course
offers spectacular views of the Kohala Coast and the Pacific
Ocean while majestic Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kohala Mountains
form the backdrop. This course, which was named "GOLF
Magazine's" 1998 list of "Gold Medal Resorts,"
was built on the side of a hill overlooking the ocean. It
is a target type course with plenty of natural vegetation
in play. Water hazards (three lakes) come into play on four
holes. There are also some transitional or waste bunkers that
are part of the course's design. "Golf Digest" rated
this course as the "Best Public Course" in the state
for 1995-96 and, 11th in 1997-98. The USGA also rated this
as one of the most environmentally sensitive courses anywhere
in the U.S. Inquire

| Kona
Country Club Mountain Course |
| Kona
Country Club at Keauhou Bay offers numerous golfing experiences.
Golfers find themselves playing over lava tube blow holes,
look over onto the Pacific Ocean or admire ancient Hawaiian
archeological sites. Amazing ocean views from every hole!
The fairways are concurrent to the ocean, and everything,
including most greens, break toward the ocean. The 7th hole,
the number-one handicap 420-yard par four, is a favorite
hole. This hole features an elevated tee shot to a narrow
landing area, and two right fairway bunkers and impinging
lava. To make this tee shot successful, a gentle "right-to-left"
shot should give you an advantage over the approaching sloping
fairway. The approach is 130 yards from the right center
of the fairway to a double-tiered mid-sized green, which
is protected by a lake as well as a bunker at the back.

| Kona
Country Club - Ocean Course |
| Kona
Country Club's Ocean course offers difficulty to golfers
because the course is situated very close to the shoreline
and has a strong crosswind. Being so close to the ocean,
golfers may even get sprayed by ocean mist. The handicap-one
hole, number 8, a 355-yard strong dogleg right features
a long right fairway bunker lodged in the bend and a small
green bunkered on the left. Out-of-bounds markers line the
right side of this par-four hole. Two of the Kona Country
Club's back nine holes, the 12th and 13th, play along the
ocean, giving additional hazards. The 13th, a 387-yard par-four
hole offers additional difficulty, a blow hole, located
on the shore line, about 100 yards left of the tee, formed
from a lava tube which occasionally provides a "geyser-like
fountain" of ocean mist. The 14th hole provides two
right fairway bunkers in additional to a raised green which
is bunkered on the left and right. Inquire

| Makalei
Golf Club |
Makalei
Golf Club is designed to incorporate the natural surroundings
of native trees, wildlife and natural features such as lava
tubes and cinder cones to create a challenging layout. The
par 72 layout offers 4 sets of tees that will offer a great
challenge to experienced golfers and for the beginner. Located
on the upper slopes of Mount Hualalai, every round of golf
will be a memorable experience with the breathtaking panoramic
views of the Kohala Coast. The Clubhouse has an elevation
of 1,950 feet above sea level, and the 10th hole tee box is
2,850 feet above sea level. The ‘Cave of Makalei’
is a legend about Makalei, a little boy who found water source
for his family and enabled them to prosper. The story tells
of a young Makalei coming across a deep hole, partially covered
by large slabs of stone. The wind rushed out of the hole and
he ran to tell his father. His father moved the stones and
save a deep cave extending into the mountain. In honor of
his sons’ discovery he named the cave of water “He
Ano Makalei”, which means Consecrated to Makalei. Inquire

| Mauna
Lani North Course |
Mana
Lani Golf Club North course with its sinuous brown forms of
pahoehoe (smooth) lava, emphasizes rolling fairways. Groves
of twisted kiawe trees along the fairway edges and a more
pronounced topography make the holes seem quite a contrast
from the south 18. Water hazards come into play, and several
holes are contiguous with the ocean. There are as many as
five different tee positions on most of the holes to give
golfers a wide range of options in meeting the challenging
conditions. The North Courses rolling terrain and groves of
Kiawe trees come into play. Four finishing holes on the North
Course are scenic and well designed. Hole #17 is the North's
signature hole, par 3, measuring 140 yards, requires a tee
shot from an elevated tee to a green that is framed by a natural
lava amphitheatre. One should try to avoid the large lava
rock and the sand trap on your way to the green. Inquire

Mauna
Lani South Course |
| Mauna
Lani Golf Club South Course fairways are composed of Bermuda
grass and the rough is rather thick. Most of the fairways
are lined by the natural rough along with pahoehoe and a'a
lava rock. Lava rock must definitely be avoided as if you
are lucky enough to have your ball bounce back to the fairway
your ball will never be the same again. The South Course
highlights are two holes that play beside the ocean. Hole
#15, a par 3, requires a tee shot over the ocean to the
green and is one of the most photographed holes in the world.
Hole #7, another par 3, borders the ocean and during the
winter months golfers can enjoy watching humpback whales
migrating offshore. Most of the greens are flat and you
can roll your ball to the flag. The speed of the greens
is sometimes hard to determine and there are many subtle
breaks. Inquire

| Volcano
Golf and Country Club |
| The
golf course is located next to Volcanoes National Park.
It is fairly flat, but it has some rolling hills which will
cause uneven lies. There is a pond and three ditches which
come into play on four holes. Almost all of the tees and
some of the greens are elevated. The most difficult hole
on the course is #15, a 425-yard, par 4, requiring a tee
shot up a dogleg fairway with tall pines guarding the turn.
Golfers looking for peaceful golf course offering ample
time for concentration and a relaxing round of golf should
try Volcano Golf and Country Club. This unique 18-hole course
is set on the slopes of Mauna Loa at the southeastern end
of the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated at 4,280 feet above
sea level, Volcano Golf and Country Club offers unrivaled
views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, as well as crisp, clean
air for a truly enjoyable game of golf. Nighttime temperatures
here dip into the low 30's in winter, while daytime temperatures
are usually in the 70's. Also contributing to the fast,
hard greens, and another unusual feature, is the fact that
there is no irrigation system on this golf course. Big Island
golfers familiar with this course know there are four tips
for playing the links at Volcano Golf and Country Club.
First, the golfer must stay on the fairway. Due to the high
elevation, golfers may notice a little more distance on
the ball. Second, golfers are advised to use one or two
fewer clubs than they normally use. Third,
instead of shooting for the flag, the golfer should roll
it to the hole. And finally, the golfer who is uncertain
about the break on the putt should putt it straight to the
hole. One of the Volcano golf course's most challenging
holes is number 15, a long par-four dogleg left, which measures
375 yards from the middle tee. The challenge confronting
the golfer; trying to hit into the wind and onto the elevated
green past eucalyptus trees. The Volcano Golf and Country
Club offers a complete pro shop, rental clubs, a driving
range, clubhouse, restaurant, cocktails, snack bar, and
locker rooms (for members only). This private club is open
to the public, but tee times are required, so golfers should
call in advance. Golf carts are mandatory and golf shoes
and shirts also are required, but dress is casual. Green
fees are reasonable. Inquire

| Waimea
Country Club |
| Located
in upcountry Waimea, this course provides a comfortable,
cool climate. The Scottish links design is set with views
of both the ocean and Mauna Kea. The course is a great golf
escape where you will find some of the finest greens in
all the islands. This is not your typical Hawaiian resort
course. It was built on pasture lands and is wide open,
yet there are many Ironwood trees that can affect your shots.
The front nine is not as hilly as the back nine. All the
fairways are defined by a standard cut of rough, and the
large greens are slightly sloped and fast. The weather conditions
are generally cooler then other areas of the island, so
bring a sweater. Inquire

Beach Resort - Kings' Course |
Designed
by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Moorish, the Par 72 links, 7,000 yard
layout features six major lakes and approximately 75 bunkers.
The sophisticated bunker strategy and multiple tee placements
work together to create a challenging course. The Kings' Course
is more of links-style design because of its deep sand bunkers
and ocean winds. This Scottish-links style layout features
numerous pot bunkers, undulating fairways multiple tee placements
and lava outcroppings throughout. Upon opening in 1990, the
Kings' Course was ranked as one of the top new courses you
can play by Golf Digest. A LPGA tournament was held here in
1992. Carved through the magnificent lava-flows along Anaecho'omalu
Bay, the Kings' course is the golfer's avenues into an area
steeped in history and legend. Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish
built the Kings' Course to challenge the better player with
undulating fairways and deep bunkers in an imposing landscape,
and raised the level of play in Waikoloa, creating a world-class
golf venue. Inquire
